Another Eliza is born

Congratulations to the maker of this very fine Eliza!

It is heartening to hear of more Eliza light hats being made at home.

For those who are apprehensive, take heart. It can be done. If you aren’t in a position to do the fiddly stuff yourself, then you will almost certainly have a mate who is prepared to help. Just ask.

I’ve just updated the page on the evolution of the Eliza light hats. Now that it is public knowledge that Max was asked to be the first guinea pig, I can be a little more open with information and photos.

Over the first 12 months of Max’s use of light hats, I made him five different versions. I’m not sure he has ever had so much headwear!

 

 

Record keeping

I had a great query this morning about what baseline information to collect before you start using an Eliza. I have an excel spreadsheet which is basic, but a useful start, and it allows you to add comments over time. I will post it separately.

Parkinson’s symptoms & Lights

Over the last two years we have made, for people with Parkinson’s, a number of Eliza light hats, both one and two wavelength. I’ve been musing on what they and we have been noticing. Bear in mind that each person is different, experiencing symptoms in different ways.

We have seen improvements in everyone who uses the lights daily.

The person least likely to notice any improvements is the person with Parkinson’s

The Beginning

Looking into a one-wavelength Eliza.

Constant knee pain makes it hard to be active, so in mid 2015, I did a lot of sitting and reading. One of the books was Norman Doidge’s The Brain’s Way of Healing. He mentioned the positive effect of red and near infrared light on arthritic joints and damaged tendons, and on brains.
